What’s Denim Day?
In the 1990’s, an 18 year old girl was sexually assaulted by her 45 year old driving instructor in Italy. The charges against this man were dismissed based on the argument “the victim wore very tight jeans and she had to have helped him remove them.” The court decided that the sex was consensual based on the denim pants she was wearing.
Now, during every Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April) of every year, we take a day to honor this injustice by wearing denim. Wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
Join us this year on April 26th as we wear jeans for Denim Day!
