Sextortion

Sextortion is a serious and growing form of online sexual exploitation that can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background.

Are you a victim of sextortion?

Perpetrators use manipulation, threats, coercion, or deception to pressure victims into sending explicit images, engaging in sexual activity online, paying money, or complying with other demands. These crimes may involve someone the victim knows or a stranger met online, and most incidents begin through social media or other digital platforms. The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) has also made it easier for offenders to create or alter explicit images to exploit victims.

Prevention, education, and early intervention are important.

While perpetrators often seek additional explicit images or videos, they may also demand money, in-person meetings, or continued contact and control. Because offenders frequently operate across state or international borders, these cases can be complex to investigate, making prevention, education, and early intervention especially important.

At our Rape Crisis Center, we believe survivors deserve compassion, support, and to be treated without judgment. No one is ever to blame for being exploited.

We provide confidential advocacy, emotional support, assistance with reporting to law enforcement and online platforms, safety planning, and connections to additional resources for survivors and their loved ones.
